Matcha Green Tea Latte (Printable Version)

Vibrant matcha blended with steamed milk for a smooth, energizing drink ready in 10 minutes.

# Components:

→ Matcha Base

01 - 2 teaspoons matcha green tea powder
02 - 2 tablespoons hot water (175°F)

→ Milk

03 - 2 cups milk (dairy or plant-based alternative)

→ Sweetener

04 - 1-2 teaspoons honey, maple syrup, or sugar (optional)

# Directions:

01 - Sift matcha powder through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl or mug to break up clumps and ensure smooth texture.
02 - Pour hot water over sifted matcha. Whisk vigorously in a zigzag motion using a bamboo whisk or small whisk until fully dissolved and frothy with no lumps remaining.
03 - Heat milk in a small saucepan over medium heat until steaming but not boiling, or use a milk frother to warm and froth the milk simultaneously.
04 - Divide the prepared matcha concentrate evenly between two mugs.
05 - Stir in sweetener of choice to taste, if desired, blending well with the matcha base.
06 - Gently pour steamed milk over matcha mixture, using a spoon to hold back foam. Once milk is added, spoon remaining foam on top for cafe-style presentation.
07 - Serve immediately while hot. For iced version, pour over ice cubes before adding milk.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • You get that café-quality latte texture without spending six dollars every morning
  • The gentle caffeine buzz feels different from coffee, more like a sustained wakefulness
  • Once you master the whisk, it becomes this beautiful little daily ritual
02 -
  • Sifting is nonnegotiable, the one time I skipped it I spent five minutes fishing out powder clumps with my spoon
  • Room temperature milk actually froths better than cold milk if you are using a handheld frother
  • The powder settles quickly, so give it a quick stir before that first sip
03 -
  • Store opened matcha in the freezer in an airtight container to preserve that vibrant green color
  • If using plant milk, barista versions foam better than regular cartons
