Fourth of July Fruit Skewers (Printable Version)

Festive skewers with fresh strawberries, bananas, and blueberries, ideal for summer gatherings.

# Components:

→ Fruit

01 - 12 large strawberries, hulled and halved
02 - 2 medium bananas, peeled and sliced into 0.5 inch rounds
03 - 1 cup fresh blueberries

→ Optional Garnish

04 - 1 tablespoon honey or agave syrup, optional for drizzling
05 - 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice to prevent banana browning

# Directions:

01 - Rinse strawberries and blueberries thoroughly. Hull and halve the strawberries. Peel and slice bananas into 0.5 inch rounds. Toss banana slices in lemon juice to minimize browning.
02 - Thread one blueberry, one banana slice, and one strawberry half onto each skewer in sequence. Repeat the pattern until the skewer is filled, ending with a few blueberries for the blue tip.
03 - Arrange the assembled skewers decoratively on a platter in a flag pattern or circular layout for festive presentation.
04 - If desired, lightly drizzle the skewers with honey or agave syrup for enhanced sweetness.
05 - Serve immediately, or cover and refrigerate for up to 2 hours before serving.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • They look like edible fireworks but require zero actual cooking or skill to pull off.
  • Kids will eat fruit without complaining when it's stabbed on a stick and dressed up like a flag.
  • You can prep them in fifteen minutes flat, leaving you time to actually enjoy your guests instead of sweating in the kitchen.
02 -
  • Don't skip the lemon juice on the bananas—I learned this the hard way when I made these for a daytime event and they turned an unappetizing shade of brown by afternoon.
  • Wooden skewers need to be soaked in water for thirty minutes if you plan to go anywhere near heat, but since these are no-cook, you're free of that worry.
03 -
  • Buy strawberries and blueberries from the farmer's market if you can—they taste noticeably sweeter and don't require as much rescue with lemon juice.
  • If your bananas are slightly underripe, they'll actually hold together better on the skewer and look cleaner when sliced—sometimes less perfect is more perfect.
