Coffee Jelly Drink (Printable Version)

Bouncy coffee jelly cubes served in sweet, creamy milk—a delightful Japanese fusion beverage.

# Components:

→ Coffee Jelly

01 - 2 cups strong brewed coffee, hot
02 - 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
03 - 2 teaspoons unflavored gelatin powder
04 - 2 tablespoons cold water

→ Sweet Cream

05 - 1 cup whole milk
06 - 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
07 - 1/2 cup heavy cream
08 - Ice cubes, as needed

# Directions:

01 - Sprinkle gelatin powder over cold water in a small bowl. Let stand for 5 minutes until gelatin absorbs the liquid and becomes spongy.
02 - Pour hot brewed coffee into a saucepan. Stir in granulated sugar until completely dissolved.
03 - Add the bloomed gelatin to the hot coffee mixture. Whisk continuously over low heat until gelatin is fully dissolved and no granules remain.
04 - Transfer the coffee mixture to a shallow dish or baking pan. Allow to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 1.5 hours until firm and set.
05 - Remove the set jelly from the refrigerator. Using a sharp knife, cut into 1/2-inch cubes.
06 - In a pitcher, combine whole milk, sweetened condensed milk, and heavy cream. Whisk until thoroughly blended and smooth.
07 - Fill serving glasses with coffee jelly cubes and add ice cubes as desired. Pour the sweet cream mixture over the jelly. Stir gently before enjoying with a wide straw or spoon.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • Its a coffee fix that somehow feels like dessert without being overwhelmingly sweet
  • The jelly cubes are irresistibly fun to chase with your straw
  • You can make a batch ahead and keep it in the fridge for days
02 -
  • The longer the jelly chills, the firmer it becomes—overnight is totally fine if you want to prep ahead
  • Hot coffee can seize gelatin if you pour it directly in—always bloom in cold water first
  • Wide straws are non-negotiable here unless you want to chase every cube with a spoon
03 -
  • Brew your coffee extra strong since the cold temperature naturally mutes flavor
  • Use a glass baking dish for even chilling and easier cube removal
